How much would you.....
Hi All,
How much would you handle a baby guinea pig?
And how do you tame them in the beginning?
The mother panicked everytime she sees me and of course the babys also think that I may be scary.
But the mother does not care if I get her babies. And if she left the babies alone and they see my hand, they are coming to me.
The goal is that they should not be afraid of a human or any sounds of the household.

Give the mother time, a lot of Food and time. Your babies will be as tame as the mother is.
The are naturally skittish pets. Accept them for what they are. Just know, they may run from you always. If you give lots of Food and tread them well they may come to be tame.
If one of your pigs is tame put it to the mother and the Babies. it may help.

I know they are skittish, but the mother panics all the time she sees me, and I have to do health checks with her... but this is everytime with bloody scratches and bites in my hands and arms.
I would love that the babies are not going to be the same.
The only tame guinea pig are boars, and I don't want to breed...

I had a similar situation but with a boar and a new baby. He protected him so much, that it was very difficult for me to do the health check from the baby and also from the boar, because he wanted to be with the baby.
But that is really normal that a mother protected his babies. I don`t think that the babies are going the same!
If you need to take out a baby, then you could take a book and separate the mother from the babies.
And I agree MissPiggy ... a lot of food helps
Could you open a group with boars?

I have a boar-group. That's the guinea pigs I brought over from Germany.
Schnitzel was my first pig and he took care of the last rescue litter, he does a good job!
And he will also take care of this little Boy.

Schnitzel will help your Baby boar to become a tame boar.
